Emily Leonard

Tennessee native Emily Leonard’s paintings celebrate the landscape of Middle Tennessee while working to distill the passage of time into one moment or object. She says, “Our stories and the story of the land join, at once being lived and being told with the spaces between seamlessly shifting, expanding.” In works such as this hand-colored print of an owl (2011), she deconstructs images and rebuilds the forms with painstaking layering of washes and gestures. “My pieces both take time and consume time,” she says. This drawing and watercolor on archival paper was included in Seed SPACE’s inaugural CSArt bundle, December 2011
